Ashley: A grey day at Ashley as a Manchester to Chester service pulls away heading for the next stop at Mobberley on 23rd December 2021.
Saughton [Tram]: An airport bound tram crossing the E&G main line at Saughton in the summer of 2014. For a photograph showing trains passing below the flyover on the same day see image [[48135]].
Rawtenstall: Centenary commemorated. In recognition of the amalgamation of the Lancashire & Yorkshire and London & North Western Railways on 1 January 1922 the East Lancashire Railway rostered the venerable L&Y locos 0-6-0 52322 and 0-6-0ST 51456 for service on 1 January 2022. The pair are seen on home territory approach Rawtenstall West hauling the 13:00 ex Bury Bolton Street.
Elderslie: The winter of 2021 has been very mild (so far) but it was a different story in 1965. Kingmoor's Black 5 45218 is drawing to a halt at Elderslie with the regular morning train of returning parcels and mail vans. The date is 27 November and an early snowfall has blanketed the station platforms. As it was heading for Gilmour Street, it is being held to allow a passenger train to pass 'on the inside'.
Farringdon: Entrance to Farringdon station, as rebuilt in 1923, on 22nd January 2019. This was the original city terminus of the world's first Underground, the Metropolitan Railway, opened on 10th January 1863 as Farringdon Street. It was rebuilt in 1923 and renamed Farringdon & High Holborn (which can still be seen engraved on the wall) but the suffix was dropped in 1936, which is somewhat odd as there is no actual district called Farringdon. The station is actually in the district of Clerkenwell and there have been suggestions over the years to rename it but, so far, to no avail.
Newcastleton: A knight, albeit not quite in the most shining of armour, seen coming to the rescue of Peak D27, which had gone on fire north of Newcastleton whilst heading the up Waverley. The A3 was 60077 'The White Knight'. The train crew had been able to put out the fire, so D27 plus train were about to be hauled into Newcastleton. After depositing the diesel in a siding, the Pacific took the 'Waverley' tender first to Carlisle.
Dalgety Bay: 170427 nears Dalgety Bay with the 13.29 from Edinburgh to Aberdeen on 14 December 2021. The low embankment on the right was raised to protect the gentlefolk of Fordell House from the horrifying sight of trains passing by. The trees surmounting it are being reduced by Network Rail contractors to protect the trains.
Southall: 6018 'King Henry VI' at Southall on 28th June 1963. The occasion was an open day at Southall depot, with a 'Special' headed by the King. I was not on this particular trip but was on a similar one later in the summer headed by Midland 4-4-0 Compound 1000. Those were, as they say, the days.
Didcot Parkway: Didcot, GBRF 66758 'The Pavior', westbound through Didcot at 1353hrs on 21st December 2021, heading for Wentloog in South Wales.
