Levenmouth: As activity continues to prepare for the start of work on the Levenmouth Rail Link, Members of the Scottish Parliament Jenny Gilruth and David Torrance visited site to see first-hand the progress that has been made. The plans for the Levenmouth Rail link will see the reinstatement and electrification of a double tracked railway from Thornton junction to Leven on the Fife coast and the construction of two new stations.

Bromfield: Bromfield today is still a tiny Cumbrian hamlet. Its station, on the Solway Junction line, closed in 1917, reopened briefly in 1920 but closed completely the following year. Dwindling freight movements continued until 1933 but the line's fortunes were closely tied to those of the Solway Viaduct. This view, in the centenary year of Bromfield's closure, looks along the line from a surviving overbridge towards the station site, where the distant white building now sits.

Faslane Junction: One of several buildings at Faslane Junction, that in May 2007 were starting to be camouflaged by the vegetation. The buildings were used railway staff working services to the junction and for transfer to the Military Port No.1. The WHL can just be seen on the extreme right of the building and the exchange sidings are to the left and behind the camera. This building was seen from a passing train in 1969, see image [[69388]]

New Holland Town: New Holland Town signal box on 17th June 1981, one week before the end of services along New Holland Pier and withdrawal of the ferries across the Humber estuary to Hull on 24th June, superseded by the opening of the then new Humber Bridge. Fortunately I was able to enjoy a ferry trip just before they ceased.

Ruswarp: The picturesque station at Ruswarp, North Yorkshire, photographed looking north across the single line in March 2010. Off to the left is the level crossing at the foot of High Street with the bridge over the Esk just beyond. Opened in 1835 by the Whitby and Pickering Railway, Ruswarp is the penultimate stop on what is now the 30 mile long Esk Valley Line between Middlesbrough and Whitby, with the latter terminus just over a mile away to the right. Nowadays this section of the route is also used by trains of the North York Moors Railway running east beyond Grosmont.
