Braithwaite: Braithwaite station, a single platform with no passing loop, closed with the line to Cockermouth in 1966 and is seen here in residential use fifty five years later. The Disused Stations website has some excellent information and pictures about this station, including its appearance in a Hitchcock film masquerading as Coniston when the famous director made his traditional cameo appearance on this very platform.

Alloa: Secret station? Work in progress on the main entrance and car park at Alloa in July 2007. View is north east from the A907 roundabout. The station formed part of a major transformation in this area of the town, including new roads, housing, commercial and retail developments. Scheduled train services from the new station got underway ten months later on 19 May 2008.

Sydenham: Exterior of Sydenham on 29th November 2021. This was one of the original stations of the London & Croydon Railway, opened with the line on 5th June 1839 but this entrance dates from 1844 when the station was re-sited, slightly to the south. The tracks here are quadruple but the station has platforms only on the slow lines which are served by both National Rail Southern and London Overground trains and has been under the control of Transport for London since 23rd May 2010 when LO trains were first extended from New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace and West Croydon. The northbound platform was re-sited slightly to the north in 1982.

Wooler: Looking north past the corner of the goods shed to Wooler station building in 1991. Passenger services ceased in 1930 but there was goods traffic from Wooler to the north until 1965. Both these railway buildings have happily survived through to the present.

Watford Junction: A Class 122 Gloucester RCW Bubble car approaches the isolated St Albans Abbey branch platform at Watford Junction on 28th September 1975. Just visible in the background is a former LMS inspection saloon. Happily, this branch service, later electrified, survived well into the next century despite attracting frequent attention from cost-cutters and promoters of guided busways.
