Ettrick Bay [Tram]: Ettrick Bay with the western terminus of Rothesay Tramways. The terminus was in the upper centre of the photo and the course of the Tramway still lies alongside the road from there running left to right.
Bishopton Tunnel Signal Box: The 6.10-pm Glasgow Central to Gourock semi-fast service photographed shortly after passing Bishopton Tunnel signal box on 17 July 1962. The box is just visible in the left background.
Tyndrum Lead Mine: This is the remains of one of the buildings of the Tyndrum / Clifton lead mines. These mines were connected to sidings at Tyndrum station by a tramway the route of which varied over the years (including an incline at the western end for a time). The tramway predated the C&O and once connected at the eastern end to crushing mill by the Crom Allt. Its site, east of the lower station, can still be seen as nothing will grow here.
Dinas: Welsh Highland Railway train from Porthmadog Harbour to Caernarfon arriving at Dinas on 22nd May 2016. Before the original 1930s closure of the WHR this was the northern terminus of the narrow gauge, where passengers changed to the standard gauge Afon Wen to Bangor line to reach Caernarfon. This line was closed south of Caernarfon in 1964 and north of Caernarfon in 1970, leaving the popular tourist town without a railway. It also left the trackbed between Dinas and Caernarfon free so that, when the WHR rose like a phoenix from its derelict state, it could access Caernarfon along the old standard gauge line to a new station for the town, south of the tunnel and in view of the castle. This was the first part of the revived narrow gauge line to open in 1997 along a section that was never originally part of the WHR at all.
Lanark Racecourse: Caledonian 0-6-0 57581 pauses at Lanark Racecourse with the SLPF 'Covenanter' special on 20th October 1962.
Garsdale: A Grade II listed signal box on one of the country’s most picturesque rail routes has been refurbished to improve future journeys for passengers and freight. The signal box in Garsdale on the Settle and Carlisle railway line has been upgraded as part of a £500,000 Great North Rail Project investment.
Ravenstruther: A second view as a class 60 reverses its train of opencast coal, loaded at Ravenstruther loading point, on to the WCML in 1992. With the end of coal traffic the terminal is to be used by Cloburn Quarry Company for shipment of ballast.
Kilpatrick: A new permanent bridge over the railway on Dumbarton Road in Old Kilpatrick, has now re-opened. Network Rail completed its £3.5m project on Tuesday 7 December, following the demolition and replacement of the old bridge. It follows the deterioration of the old structure, which left it unsuitable for the weight and volume of traffic which passed over it daily.
Glasgow Central: Standard Class 5 73059 ready to leave Glasgow Central with the 15.57 to Gourock in October 1966.
Slaggyford: Walking northwards from Slaggyford towards Knarsdale Viaduct, we found this elegantly reinforced stone bridge carrying road traffic above; and walkers and sheep below. There is clearly room here for at least one narrow gauge track in future, when the South Tynedale Railway extends again. Highways England please note.
Bo'ness: Looking west to the fine signal on the approach to Bo'ness Station on 9 December 2021. Until 9am that day the 600' chimney of Longannet Power Station dominated the background ...

Kirkham and Wesham: DBC 90036, pan down, brings up the rear of a Euston to Blackpool Illuminations excursion, seen passing Kirkham on 27th November 2021. Train engine was 90024 but 90036 later took the empty stock to Preston for servicing and also hauled the evening return from Blackpool North to London.
