New Bridge Level Crossing: B1 4-6-0 no 61002 Impala south of New Bridge level crossing at the head of a NYMR train bound for Pickering on 6 June 2013. The B1 is actually 61264 in disguise, with the genuine 61002 having been withdrawn from Hull Dairycoates in June 1967 and cut up a few months later.

Bradkirk Junction: This view, to the west of Bradkirk Junction, shows the diverging lines to Blackpool in November 2021. To the left the direct 'Marton' line to Blackpool Central. In the Beeching Report this was recommended for retention and that to the right would also have continued to Fleetwood but Blackpool North would have closed. However, Blackpool Council was desperate to get the Central site for car parking and pushed for Blackpool North to remain open, which of course is what transpired. The Marton line disappears completely beyond this visible section. A three arch overbridge and the deep cutting at Plumpton have completely gone. Further on the M55 and a link road follow the course of the line. The small protrusion on the horizon (see inset) is the top of Blackpool Tower, around five miles away.

Bendor Level Crossing: Bendor Level Crossing in 1991, with what I presume to be the signalman's house. This view looking towards Akeld on the old NER Alnwick to Cornhill line, long closed even at that time.

Elderslie Fly Under: Crab 2-6-0 No 42861 is using the 'fly under' at Elderslie No.2 on 29 August 1965, in order to gain access to the Lochwinnoch Loop without hindering traffic on the main line between Elderslie and Johnstone High. This was also quite a regular manoeuvre for trains going to Kilmacolm.

Cadder Yard: An Inter7City train is seen at ScotRail's new servicing depot at Cadder near Glasgow. The depot was built at a cost of £33m to service 6 High Speed Trains. It is located between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley stations from which more than 80% of Inter7City services start or finish.

Hellifield: 66001 heads the 10:44 New Biggin British Gypsum to Tees Dock with a short load approaching Hellifield on 2nd December 2021. At first glance this is unremarkable as this train runs several times a week and has done for over a decade now. However, the sun had set a good 20 minutes beforehand and it was becoming rather desperate for the exposure. Another 5 minutes and darkness was across the fields so I was pleased with the timing and result.

Silloth: A view of Silloth station and yard in 2021, fifty seven years after closure. A rugby pitch now dominates the foreground but there were once extensive sidings all round the port. The station building was sited where the modern terrace of houses now sits but the long passenger platform reached all the way to the B5300 bridge from which this photo was taken. See image [[9324]] from a similar vantage point in 1951.

Alloa: Railfreight, apparently lost in another sense. 66165 cautiously parts greenery as it navigates through lineside overgrowth east of Alloa with coal for Longannet power station on 12th September 2015. Few such trains had used the line that summer, presumably because the power station had been running down the coal stocks prior to its impending closure the next year. Unlike the other materials that used to be carried by rail, there are few who now mourn the passing of this type of load, even though it fuelled the development of our national railway system in the first place.

Gourock Pier: The Ardrishaig mail service, operated by MacBrayne's, ready to leave Gourock in 1965. 'MV Lochnevis' is taking the place of the more usual 'Lochfyne', as I think she did in spring/early summer over several years. Although most passengers from Gourock would arrive by train, some evidently came by MacBrayne's bus. Two coaches in the distinctive MacBrayne livery can be seen on the pier.
