Shawlands: A wintry day at Shawlands station in February 1985 with a Glasgow Central to Newton (via Maxwell Park) service about to call. There was plenty of cover for passengers at that time under the generous station canopy and the building itself was still staffed for ticket sales. Subsequently, after de-staffing and demolition of the buildings, the station came to offer little more than a barren platform and a tiny shelter.

Admiralty Sidings Junction: This is the secondary connection into Longtown, known as Admiralty Sidings Junction or sometimes the emergency connection. It is now overgrown here. It is seen from the South on a railtour in late 2000.

Thatcham: 166208 heads towards Reading with a service to Paddington having just crossed over Colthorp level crossing, east of Thatcham in December 2008. See image [[21898]] for a view in the opposite direction, also taken from the footbridge that used to be located here, removed during the electrification work

Haymarket: One of three alternative proposals for the new transport interchange at Haymarket published in 2007 involved demolition of the A-listed station building and its two adjacent hostelries, Ryries and The Caledonian Alehouse. Result - universal outrage. The final plan saw the station building receive a modern extension, with one of the pubs surviving unscathed. The loser was The Caledonian Alehouse, remains of which lie beyond the metal barriers on 7 April 2009. In the background, between the buses on Haymarket Terrace and the station building, stands Ryries, doubtless breathing a sigh of relief. For the original layout see [[16520]].

Leeming Bar: Another one that got away. Brush Type 4 47715, after being rubbed down and repainted in Network South East livery, was removed by Harry Needle for use at his Worksop storage facility. It is seen stabled by the signal box at Leeming Bar in April 2019.

Crianlarich: Timber wagons await loading in Crianlarich's sidings. And, for some reason (breakdown? to make connections?), 156462. The view is to the south.

Southfields: A wave from the driver as this train of LUL D78 stock (now withdrawn) arrives at Southfields, two stops into its long journey from Wimbledon in south-west London to Upminster in Essex, on 31st May 2014. This station and the line between Wimbledon and East Putney was also served by Southern Railway trains from Wimbledon to Waterloo and even after these were withdrawn on 5th May 1941, the line remained in main line ownership and passed into British Railways Southern Region at Nationalisation in 1948. The stations at East Putney, Southfields and Wimbledon Park were adorned with BR running in boards even though their trains never called. Not until 1994 was the line finally handed over to London Transport and the running in boards replaced by standard LT roundels. It is still used by some National Rail trains today, mainly on diversion - notably at the time of the Clapham Junction disaster in 1988 - and occasionally visited by rail enthusiasts' specials.

Edinburgh Waverley: An Avanti West Coast service for London Euston prepares to depart Waverley's Platform 9 on the frosty morning of 4 January 2021. I know they've been a feature for some years, but somehow trains to Euston from Waverley don't seem quite right! A shrouded North Bridge looms above.
