Aberdeen Waterloo: The afternoon sun illuminates Colas 70803 and a yard full of tank wagons at Aberdeen Waterloo on 22nd January 2020. Perhaps there is an element of catch up following the recent line closure, even though some trains got through via the Inverness diversion.

Cameron Bridge: Looking from the A915 towards Levenmouth, along the cleared track, on 1st December 2020. The buffer stop is the extremity of Cameron Bridge yard, formerly on the double track to Leven. This site is likely to become the location of a new Cameron Bridge station with a car park off to the left in this view.

Knutsford: Knutsford station, on the Manchester Piccadilly to Chester line, looking south from the northbound platform on 6th April 2016. This station was opened by the Cheshire Lines Committee on 12th May 1862 as the temporary terminus of the line from Altrincham until extension to Northwich on 1st January 1863. The Victorian writer Mrs. Gaskell, a.k.a. Elizabeth Gaskell (1810-1865) based her novel 'Cranford', on the town of Knutsford.

Althorne: A mixed livery and very clean Derby 116 3 car DMU heads away from the camera at Althorne on 13 November 1982. Next stop is Burnham on Crouch, the ultimate goal being Southminster. Electrification works got under way in 1985 and were completed the next year.

Hincaster Junction: 90015, recently transferred from Greater Anglia passenger duties to Freightliner (and still carrying 'Colchester Castle' plates), passes over the disused canal tunnel at Hincaster on 28th November 2020. This was an infrastructure train carrying steel sleepers from Crewe to Carlisle. It is unusual to see such trains hauled by a single electric loco but it was reportedly covering for a failed DRS Class 68. The old horse path passes under the railway through two small bridges on the left of the picture and goes over this hill before rejoining the canal by the western portal.
