Banks: The site of Banks station, closed with the Preston to Southport line in 1964, is marked only by a slight rise in the road where the level crossing was. All was cleared away after closure, and in fact the site of the Southport platform has gone completely with the excavation of a large drainage channel. Visited on 3rd November 2020.
Hoghton: The southbound Cumbrian Mountain Express, with 45699 'Galatea' running as 45562 'Alberta', passing under the A675 road bridge and approaching Hoghton Level Crossing on the early evening of 10 October 2020.
Pencaitland: Photograph taken alongside the trackbed at Pencaitland in March 2007. The line from Ormiston came in from the left, with the route onward towards the branch terminus at Gifford to the right. View is north towards the A6093, with the area beyond the surviving gradient sign now a car park forming part of the Pencaitland Railway Walk. Immediately to the left stood Pencaitland station itself, closed to passengers as long ago as 1933 and since replaced by the silos of the Pencaitland Maltings (see image [[14101]]).
Lealholm: Track renewal took place between Danby and Lealholm stations on the Whitby branch during late September 2020. Colas 70803, with 70811 at the rear, is slowly moving forward as a ballast drop takes place on the section of line relaid over the previous day and night. Milepost 23 1/2 can be seen to the right of the first hopper wagon. A further top and tailed rake of loaded hoppers with 70812 leading and 70805 at the rear would follow with a further ballast drop that was completed with two hoppers left full.
Haymarket: A TPE service from somewhere to Edinburgh nears journey's end on 7 October 2020. That vertical 'Haymarket' seems to hang in the air. I've never been sure who it is aimed at; it is quite invisible from the platforms and from street level, though can be seen briefly from the top deck of a bus on Dalry Road.
Enfield Town: 315803 at Enfield Town terminus, waiting to depart for Liverpool Street, on 17th February 2016. This service has been operated as part of the London Overground network since 30th May 2015, hence the orange colour of the world-famous LT roundel. The final 315 units, nos. 802 and 807, ran on the Enfield Town and Chingford lines on 20th October 2020, being replaced by new class 710s. This station was originally opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1849 and was rebuilt in its present form by British Railways Eastern Region in 1958.
Carstairs: A southbound class 87-hauled express passes Carstairs in 1979.
Galashiels: A ScotRail DMU photographed shortly after leaving Galashiels station in September 2015 heading for Edinburgh via the Waverley route. Meantime, approaching in the background, is a First Bus no 62 on the reverse journey, although in this case having travelled via Peebles, a route also served by rail in times past.
Oxford: GWR 800-001, Paddington bound from Oxford on 7th October 2020.
Kirknewton: The architectural style of Sir William Tite is prominent in this photograph taken at Kirknewton station in April 2012. The passing CrossCountry Voyager is on its way to Glasgow Central via Carstairs.
