Buchanan Street: B1 4-6-0 61330 sits in the rain at the buffer stops of Glasgow Buchanan Street's Platform 5 on 5th November 1966. It had brought in the 10.50am arrival from Leven, and the carriages would shortly be returning as the 11.35 service to Thornton, behind classmate 61407. The dismal weather fitted the scene only too well, as Buchanan Street closed for good the following day.
Gleneagles Hotel: The Grand Entrance to Gleneagles Hotel seen in a 1985 view.
Blundellsands and Crosby: L&YR buildings and canopies at Blundellsands and Crosby were replaced many years ago by these flat roofed structures. Passengers waiting for this Liverpool service shelter from a sudden hail storm as 507013 calls on 3rd November 2020.
Cheltenham Spa [GWR]: BTP have obviously decided that they shouldnt look too threatening.
Heysham Port: The one service each weekday from Leeds to Heysham Port has arrived at its destination and is now preparing to commence the return trip. 144006, standing at the one remaining platform, was allocated to this duty on 11 February 2010. The passenger ferry terminal is behind the camera while over on the left is the lorry park for the freight services.
Londonderry Foyle Road: The former Foyle Valley Railway Museum at Londonderry, now closed, seen here on 2nd August 2018. The passenger station was behind the camera.
Culloden Viaduct: The diverted Aberdeen Waterloo to Irvine Caledonian Paper Mill slurry tanks pictured heading south off Culloden Viaduct, hauled by 70810 yet again, on 30th October 2020. With the Dundee - Aberdeen line reopening on Tuesday 3rd November, this was the last time this train was diverted.
Low Marishes: Looking at the roadside frontage of the former crossing keepers cottages at Low Marishes, with the trackbed to right of view. Note the arched chimney stack that would have served the single open fire in each cottage. I am advised that this style of chimney is on other extant keepers cottages around the York area.
Clyde Viaduct [Glasgow Central]: A plastic-shrouded Clyde bridge as seen from King George V Bridge with Central station just visible. The images posted on the hoardings are not visualisations of the finished work, just photos of how it looked before work started. It had better be worth it.
Stanhope: 37015 crosses the River Wear, a little to the west of Stanhope station, with cement from Eastgate in 1987.
Danycoed Halt: Gwili Railway train heading north to Danycoed in south-west Wales, on 9th June 2018.
General Terminus Quay: Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80121 slips as it shunts a rake of 'Conflat' wagons at Glasgow’s General Terminus Quay in July 1965. No trace of this scene on the south bank of the Clyde remains now. The spire of Glasgow University, just visible in the distance, is probably the only thing in this view still standing.
Glenfinnan Viaduct: The iconic Glenfinnan viaduct lit up red tonight (Wednesday, November 11) as a tribute to all those who have lost their lives in defence of the country. The 21-arch Victorian viaduct, which is famous across the world for its starring role in the Harry Potter film series, turned red between 19:00 and 21:00 as the nation marks the 102nd anniversary of Armistice Day. Lighting up Glenfinnan viaduct also pays tribute to the role the West Highland Line played in WWII – transporting thousands of service personnel from Britain, and nations across occupied Europe, to commando training centres located in the north west of Scotland. While the coronavirus pandemic caused the cancellation of traditional remembrance services at Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley, Scotland’s two busiest stations observed the two minutes silence at 11:00 this morning.
Eastleigh: SouthWest Railways Class 444 EMUs, in different colour schemes, coupled at Eastleigh on 28th October 2020.
