Knightswood South Junction: 320316 is looking less than spruce as it rattles over the points at Knightswood South on 19 September 2020. The train is a Balloch to Airdrie service. Photographed from Anniesland's Platform 3, which can serve only the Maryhill line.

Down Street: The still extant entrance to the London Underground's former Down Street station, on 22nd August 2020. This opened on 15th December 1906 with the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway (now part of the much extended Piccadilly Line) and closed on 21st May 1932. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, it never paid its way being surrounded by high class hotels whose patrons probably had their own transport, plus its close proximity to Hyde Park Corner station made it an easy target for early closure. Clearly the work of Leslie W. Green, the Underground's Chief Architect of the Edwardian period (who died in 1908 at the tragically young age of 34), the station went on to have an afterlife during WWII when the underground rooms were converted into a secret bunker for Churchill and the War Cabinet. From time to time, TfL conduct guided tours into the subterranean depths of this ghost station; alas I have not yet managed to go on one.

Eastgate: View west along the partially overgrown track of the Weardale Railway at Eastgate, near the extremity of the line running from Bishop Auckland. The track continues a short distance further west into the now demolished cement works site, whereas when the line continued on to Westgate and Wearhead it turned south just before the works to run over a, still extant, girder bridge over the River Wear. For the view in opposite direction towards the former Eastgate Station see image [[74371]]

Argyle Street: The 1979 Argyle Street station is underground, but the island platform is approached from below so to leave the station you have to go down a level and up two. There are escalators but no lifts; it just would not be built that way today. In the low-roofed 'sub-basement' passengers queue to buy tickets to leave the station.
