Hampstead: LUL 1995 stock with a Northern Line service to Kennington via Charing Cross calling at Hampstead on 26th August 2020. When the railway was being built this station was to be called Heath Street, and this was painted on the walls, but by the time it opened on 22nd June 1907 its name had been changed to Hampstead instead. For many years the originally-intended name was covered-up by hoardings but these have now been removed. Other Underground stations which did open with their intended names but were later renamed have similarly been treated, e.g. at Arsenal on the Piccadilly Line, the original name Gillespie Road which it bore from its opening in 1906 until 1932 has now been uncovered, and at Warren Street (Northern Line), which for less than a year between its opening in June 1907 and May 1908 was called Euston Road. (See my pics of Warren Street also published by Railscot.)
Appleford: GWR 165101 passing Appleford Level Crossing on a Didcot to Oxford shuttle service on 12th September 2020.
Lanark: Looking from platform 1 at Lanark station over the empty goods yard in 1986. This has since been occupied by a supermarket.
Lancaster: 397007 pauses at Lancaster with a TPE Liverpool to Glasgow service on 31st August 2020. This was my first visit to Lancaster station since the March lockdown - a few people travelling but nothing like a 'normal' Bank Holiday Monday.
Kirkliston Viaduct: The trackbed of the South Queensferry branch looking south shortly after crossing the River Almond on the afternoon of 13 January 2012. The line closed to passengers in 1930 although goods traffic continued for a further 35 years. View is south towards Ratho with the Pentland Hills forming the horizon. Kirkliston Viaduct is just behind the camera [[37201]].
Singer Signal Box: Gresley V3 2-6-2T no 67627 at the head of a Springburn - Balloch train approaching Singer on a dull and murky Saturday 12 April 1958. In the foreground is the course of the original route, the train is on the deviation through Singer station.
Glasgow Queen Street High Level: The gap between Queen Street's trainshed and the concrete hotel extension, seen from the College of Building and Printing in 1996.
Stanhope: Immediately beyond Stanhope station west end limit and the run round head-shunt is an accommodation vehicle level crossing, giving access to recreational facilities, which marks the start of the mothballed section of extant track running to Eastgate. A short distance further west there is the first bridge over the River Wear on this section. This view looks east from the level crossing to the two rakes of coaching stock being stored at the station at present.
Hellifield: 35018 'British India Line' waits in the up loop at Hellifield with support coach to take over the 'Dalesman' tour from Chester to Carlisle on 8 September 2020.
