Grimsargh

The Preston and Longridge Railway was built as a horse drawn tramway taking stone from the Longridge quarries. Many of the significant public buildings in Preston are constructed from Longridge stone. The line was later connected to the rest of the rail network, steam worked and opened to passenger trains, although these ceased in 1930. The last goods train from Longridge departed in 1967 and the line has gradually disappeared but this embankment to the north of Grimsargh, climbing at 1:40, is a very visible survivor.
