Nantes

The characteristic French smoke deflectors, 4-8-2 wheel arrangement and complicated array of external 'works' on the locomotive tell us that we are across the Channel, in Nantes to be precise, in 1969. SNCF Grande P 241P30 prepares to leave with a 16-coach load on a Saturday express for Paris, which it will haul as far as Le Mans. Although grubby and due for withdrawal a month or two later, this fine locomotive completed the task with absolute aplomb.
