Southport

L&YR 2-4-2T 50850 was the last of these fine engines in service. Several eked out their final years on light duties at Southport, and I was fortunate to see them in my early trainspotting years, but in L&YR days they had efficiently hauled heavy commuter trains over hilly routes. 50850 is seen here passing the excursion platforms at Chapel Street station with four coaches in May 1960. The footbridge at Southport has provided a fine vantage point for enthusiasts for many years (See image 41410). Photo by J. H. Turner
