Pendlebury

Pendlebury station, on the Salford to Wigan direct route through Atherton, closed in 1960 but the rails still curve round the spot where the island platform stood before removal in the 1970s. The former goods lines were to the right but these were removed around 1968 when this four track main line was reduced to two. The station building was on the main road to the right with a footbridge crossing three tracks to access the platform. This picture, taken from above Pendlebury Tunnel east portal, shows 158754 on a Leeds to Wigan service passing the station site on 30th June 2021.
