Solway Junction

The 1548 Glasgow Central - Newcastle Central eastbound shortly after restarting from Annan on 21 May 2008. The train is on the single line section to Gretna and is passing a PW team working on the redoubling of the line. The lookout in the left background, whose klaxon warned of the trains approach, is standing on the site of Solway Junction which, prior to 1921, provided a link south to reach the Solway Viaduct. The redoubled Annan - Gretna section finally became operational in August 2008 (see 20209).
