Balgreen Halt

The Corstorphine Branch curved off the main line at Haymarket West Junction and in 1934 Balgreen Halt was added here, just past the junction, when the area filled up with public housing. Until closure of the branch in 1967/68 trains ran through to North Berwick, so more than 50 years ago Edinburgh had more of a 'Crossrail' service than it does today. The tram line can be seen at the extreme left of the picture. The olive structure houses the people who pedal away furiously to power the trams.
