Lostock Hall

47448 does some leisurely shunting in the yard at 10D, Lostock Hall MPD, in January 1979. The shed had by this time been reduced to a wagon repair facility for the local civil engineers; hence the fire damaged Shark brake van in the foreground. Behind the Brush Type 4 runs the Farington Curve to Blackburn line. The photo was taken from what was once the scrap line for the steam locos that were withdrawn from Lostock Hall. The shed closed completely not long after this picture was taken and was later demolished, although the site has yet (2012) to be redeveloped. 47448, the former D1565, worked for a further twelve years before withdrawal from Crewe in January 1991. It was cut up at Booths, Rotherham some five years later.
