Lostock Hall
Nicely bulled up for its last weekend of steam duties is Stanier LMS 8F 2-8-0 48476, photographed at Lostock Hall shed on 2nd August 1968. Two days later it piloted BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 73069 from Manchester Victoria to Blackburn via Oldham, Rochdale, Bury Knowsley St and Bolton on the RCTS End of Steam Commemorative Rail Tour. Despite appearances the 8F then unfortunately had a one-way ticket to the breakers yard. See image 31774
