Milnthorpe

Milnthorpe station was over a mile from the small town it served and by 1964 had a service of only three up and four down trains on weekdays. It closed on 1 July 1968, the same day as the stations at Tebay and Shap. The station building survives alongside the WCML as seen in this view looking south towards Carnforth. [Railscot note to would be photographers: The bridge overlooking Milnthorpe is on a fast road with no footpath and not a place to linger waiting for trains. The bridges at Elmsfield, around a mile south of here on the B6384, are a much better location.]
