Solway Viaduct

The south shore of the Solway Firth, looking across the gap where once stood the Solway Viaduct, seen from the Annan embankment on 21 May 2008. The southern embankment is much longer than its northern equivalent and still contains a single set of the linked iron piers see image 17192 that once supported the structure. Just beyond the trees stands the impressive former station of Bowness-on-Solway, now a private house. The Cumbrian Fells dominate the skyline.
