Tillicoultry 1,2 Colliery Line (Alloa Coal Company)

Introduction

This short line ran east from Tillicoultry station (it bypassed the station on its south side) before turning south to cross the River Devon to Tillicoultry Colliery Pits Nos 1 and 2. Between the station and the bridge the line ran parallel, and on the south side of, the Devon Valley Railway.

The bridge over the river remains standing today, carrying a footpath.

This station was originally a terminus and later a through station. It was located on the west side of a level crossing over Moss Road to the south of Tillicoultry. It was rebuilt at least three times.

This mine was opened by the Alloa Coal Company. It was served by a railway from Tillicoultry station, the line running alongside the main line on the approach to the station where there was an exchange yard on its south side. It closed in 1957. The mine was originally known as Drummie and is better known as simply Tillicoultry Mine.
