Shieldhill and Redding Collieries Railway

Introduction

This private mineral railway ran south from Redding Signal Box, just west of Polmont Junction, to reach various collieries. Due to the steep ground to be climbed just south of the junction with the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway the line used a series of zig-zags to gain height.
