One of Merseyrails new Stadler Class 777s is seen in platform 1 at Southport whilst out on the afternoon test run from Sandhills on 28 September 2021. The units are 4 car however the inner two cars are shorter than the driving cars resulting in the Class 777 being only slightly longer than the Class 507s and 508s that they will replace. The new Merseyrail Class 777s were introduced onto Wirral Line services from September 2023. The process is a gradual one and on 16th September two 777s and three 507s were operating the West Kirby diagram. 777010 enters the terminus island platform.

One of the design features of the Class 777s, which will be introduced on Merseyside, is the step and gap free access. Unfortunately the doors were closed here but the step can be seen in the extended position below the doors being level with the platform and filling the gap. The shape of the bodyside is also designed to help prevent someone falling between the train and platform edge.
