Name and dates

Tofts Junction (1911-1934)

Description

This was the junction between the Monkton and Annbank Branch (Glasgow and South Western Railway) and the Tofts Colliery Railway which served Tofts 1 and 2 Collieries. The junction was just west of Auchincruive Colliery Pits No 1,2, 3.

A box was open between 1911 and 1934, when Tofts colliery closed.

The line was dismantled west of the junction in 1949 to allow expansion of Prestwick Airport. The eastern end of the line through to Mossblown Junction closed in 1963.

The branch trackbed is ploughed out but the main line trackbed still exists.
