St Helens No 3 Colliery (1880-1966)

Served by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway.

Description

This colliery as just south of Siddick Junction between the Whitehaven Junction Railway and the Cleator and Workington Railway. It was served by sidings from the north. A colliery producing domestic and coking coal.

There were connected coke ovens to the west of the Whitehaven Junction Railway.

Following the closure of St Helens No 2 in 1921 a single track line ran north from the coke ovens to the brick works at its site just south of Flimby.

To the south was the North Western Hematite Steel Works with which there was a direct connection, closed around 1910 and across the Whitehaven railway from the Workington Hematite Iron and Steel Works to the west.
