Workington Shed (1870-1997)

Opened on the Whitehaven Junction Railway.

Description

This was a considerable shed, latterly of 12 roads, south of Workington station on the east side of the line and served from the south.

After closure as a steam shed it was used for diesel locomotives and, later, wagon repairs. After complete closure the shed roof girders were relocated to the Great Central Railway [Preserved] in 2006, but scrapped as in poor condition.
