Following the Kingston Dock fire of 1914 four schooners, burned to the waterline, were towed to the foreshore of the former watercourse between Newshot Island and the south bank of the River Clyde. (Cruising on the Clyde, RL Brown and J McKendrick 1985).
Newshot Island was one of a number in the Clyde which were lost when the river was dredged and one watercourse chosen in preference to another. A large number of mud punts are also beached in the area.
