Name and dates

Longhirst (1847-1951)

Description

This was a two platform station to the south of a level crossing. The main station building was on the northbound platform. Longhirst itself was around a mile to the west.

Behind the southbound platform was the goods yard with a shed at the north end and coal drops to the south. Approach was from the south.

On the west side of the line, south of the station was a siding serving Longhirst Colliery.

The signal box was to the north, on the north side of the crossing and east side of the line. The base remains.

The main station building also survives, now a house.
