Eshiels Tunnel

Location type

Tunnel

Name and dates

Eshiels Tunnel (1864-1962)

Description

This structure has been restored and now carries a footpath.

Strictly speaking this is not a tunnel but rather a long road overbridge required for the A72 to pass overhead of the line on an oblique. It consists of masonry abutments (possibly masonry faced bedrock in part) and a brick arch with only a small amount of cover over it at the crown.
