Name and dates

Carlston Sand Pit

Served by the Kelvin Valley Railway.

Description

This sand pit was on the south side of the Kelvin Valley Railway east of Torrance.

There was a long loop on the railway, on the south side, from which a narrow gauge line ran south into the quarry. This appears to have had a very short loop about midway on the south side, perhaps a loading point, and a short narrow gauge line into the pit.

Balquharrage Sand Siding, also rail served, was to the east.

Local

To the south of the former sand pit is Hayston Golf Club .
