Name and dates

Bellside Quarry Signal Box

Opened on the Cleland and Midcalder Line (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This signal box, east of Cleland Viaduct and station, controll access to Bellside Brick Works and Bellside Quarry.Later it gave access to Bellside Colliery.

A box opened here in 1869 with the line. It was on the north side of the line. A siding, also on the north side, ran west to serve the brick works and quarry. The box was replaced in 1886. Later, by reversal from this siding, the colliery could be reached. A tramway ran north to Hills of Murdostown Colliery, and another west to the quarry site.

The box closed in 1932, replaced by a ground frame.

The site is now landscaped.
