Bethnal Green: The disused platforms at Bethnal Green station, closed in 1946, with the remaing platforms on the north side in the background, now served by London Overground trains to and from Chingford, Enfield Town and Cheshunt, seen from passing 720 544 with the ex-15.10 Greater Anglia service from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street, at 16.03 on Friday, 15th September 2023. The train is approaching Liverpool Street and is about to descend under the remains of the viaduct to the original 1840 terminus at Bishopsgate High Level which was replaced by Liverpool Street in 1875/76. Bishopsgate survived as a goods depot until destroyed by fire, in which two tragically people died, in December 1964.

Airdrie: In this photograph, believed to date from 1968, an eastbound Swindon DMU has left Airdrie and is about to pass the former Calderbank Iron Works branch overbridge, not long after leaving Airdrie. The photographer did not record the reason for this unusual occurrence but, as he took several shots that day of Swindon units in the Airdrie area, the train was almost certainly a diverted Edinburgh service running from Glasgow Queen St Low Level because of a problem on the normal route via Falkirk High.

Aberfeldy Distillery: An alternative view, from June 2008, of the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST, works number 2073 of 1939, that is attached to a flat wagon loaded with barrels at the Dewar's distillery in Aberfeldy. Since then the wooden picket fences have been replaced with a metal fence, which on this side has been erected along the platform to prevent anyone falling onto the track. See image [[81868]]

Lasswade Viaduct: Looking over the Valley of the North Esk on 11 March 2018 showing part of Lasswade Viaduct. Designed by Sir Thomas Bouch and constructed by the Esk Valley Railway in 1867 the branch ran to Polton along the valley to the left, with the former Lasswade station just off picture to the right. The branch closed to all rail traffic in 1964.

Eastleigh Shed: 15 June 1963 and Q1 0-6-0 No 33009 is sneaking out of Eastleigh shed. My first encounter with a Q1 (or 'Charlie', as they were affectionately known) was in the summer of 1950, when No C20 made a jaw-dropping appearance on a freight train at Fareham station.
