Auchendinny Tunnel: About to leave Auchendinny Tunnel on the Penicuik branch on 8 April 2018, before immediately crossing the bridge over the North Esk. The colourful jogger approaching the camera is passing the abandoned and overgrown platform of the former Auchendinny station.
Markinch: 170413 calls at Markinch, with the 14.27 from Perth to Edinburgh, alongside 170428 with the 14.00 from Edinburgh to Dundee on 10 October 2023.
Eastleigh: GB Railfreight 73964 'Jeanette' leading a northbound Network Rail Measurment Train into Eastleigh at 1322 hrs on 25th October 2023. 73965 was the trailing engine.
Tan-y-Bwlch: Ffestiniog Railway Bygones Gala, Whistling Curve. Quarry Hunslets 'Lilla' (piloting) and 'Britomart' (train loco) head the 16:05 Tan-y-Bwlch - Porthmadog at Whistling Curve. Even though the train is going downhill there was more visible exhaust than 'Merdinn Emrys' emitted going uphill. After this train the shadows moved over the embankment.
Hull: Hull station in October 1967. When opened it was called Hull Paragon Street and under the NER Hull Paragon. In BR days it has been referred to only as Hull. There were nine platforms, which I think were all still in use when this shot was taken, although this was subsequently reduced to six as I recall. Note the canopies extending beyond the train shed, which were removed in the 1970s.
Edge Hill: 802211 curves away from the Platform 1 line at Edge Hill on the first leg of its journey from Lime Street to Newcastle on 18th October 2023. The wide gantries, spanning the Tuebrook Sidings and loops, actually only support a single overhead line.
Drumvaich Crossing: View west towards Drumvaich Crossing where the combined signal box and railway cottage building still stands.
Lavington: Lavington signal box from a passing train. During the early 1970s it was open on nights to shorten the sections for the aggregate trains from Merehead and Whatley. And it enjoyed an Indian Summer as it was open continuously during the final two years or so of its life, as the resignalling was making its way west - culminating in closure and demolition in January 1979.
Caledonian Road: Exterior of Caledonian Road station, opened on 15th December 1906 with the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway from Hammersmith to Finsbury Park and now, of course, part of the much extended Piccadilly Line, seen here through the upstairs windows of a passing HV type bus on route 91 to Crouch End, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 30th August 2023. Designed, of course, by Leslie W. Green (1874-1908), the London Underground's Chief Architect of the Edwardian era.
Neilston: Neilston in 1977, with a Class 303 'blue train' waiting to leave for Glasgow Central.
Cardross: My annual photograph of the 'Leaf Train', this year taken from the beach at Cardross. Sadly there are few trees in the picture - the colours are really vibrant at the moment.
