Gairney Viaduct: The Gairney Viaduct in a view looking west. The National Grid clearly had similar thoughts about this being a good route for pylons. Indeed, there is also a large pipe along the viaduct today. The railway ran over the bridge and then gently curved, disappearing in this view in the distant right of centre in the trees,
Billericay: RHTT time with grubby 66776 'Joanne' leading 66753 'EMD Roberts Road' at Billericay, heading towards Southend Victoria on one of the services that operate out of Stowmarket. This service also travels to Clacton and Harwich providing a change from the EMUs on these lines.
Billericay: The down platform at Billericay, Essex, seen from 720544 calling with the ex-15.10 Greater Anglia service from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street at 15.34 on Friday, 15th September 2023. Travelling from Liverpool Street, Billericay is the first of the Essex dormitory towns, followed by Wickford, Rayleigh, Hockley and Rochford, on the Southend Victoria branch from Shenfield that contribute to the line's heavy outer-London commuter traffic which increased enormously after the line was electrified on 31st December 1956.
Stowmarket: Stowmarket is the base for a number of the RHTT trains which work in East Anglia during the leaf fall season. DRS 66421 'Gresty Bridge TMD' leads 66430 through Stowmarket, journeys end for this trip at the south end of the station where sidings are used to service the RHTT trains. This was the 3S01 service arriving from the Bury St Edmunds line just before dusk.
Forfar [1st]: The Strathspey Railway Association's 'Strathmore Express' on 25 May 1974. The DMU pulled up just short of North Street to allow passengers to inspect Forfar 1st station, later Playfield Goods.
Westbury: 1715, later 47125 under TOPS, has a westbound freight at Westbury Station. Behind is what was the Western Fuel Company's depot.
Boat of Garten: BR/LMS 5025, standing in the Strathpey's Boat of Garten station on 23 September 2023. I never seemed to be in the right place to catch it boiler first.
Kemble: Swindon Class 120 DMU set C502 pulls away from Kemble with a Gloucester - Swindon working in October 1979. The track on the right was the remains of the branch to Cirencester Town which closed to passengers on 06/04/1964. There was also a branch from Kemble to Tetbury which set off to the left but is not visible in this shot. It also closed to passengers on 06/04/1964.
Great Harwood: Until 1964 this would have been a view from the Blackburn bound platform at Great Harwood. The station had closed in 1957 but handled summer excursions and goods traffic for a further seven years. A trackbed greenway now runs from here to the outskirts of Great Harwood but behind the camera all is built over. The houses opposite are at the junction of Station Road and Hameldon View (formerly 'Railway View') and used to look onto the station forecourt.
Gairney Viaduct: A view of the north side of the Gairney Viaduct.
Elgin West: A Swindon DMU arriving at Elgin West in 1965 with an Aberdeen-Inverness service.
Forfar [1st]: The Strathspey Railway Association's 'Strathmore Express' on 25 May 1974. The train stopped just short of North Street to allow passengers to inspect Forfar 1st station, later Playfield Goods.
Glenesk: A southbound service on the Borders Railway passing the site of the former Glenesk Colliery on a bright and sunny 10 September 2015. The train is about to pass below the bridge carrying the B6392 Melville Road and is just over half a mile from its next scheduled stop at Eskbank.
