Drem Junction: Due to EMU shortages in 2004, the North Berwick line saw the temporary introduction of push-pull services made up of leased EWS Class 90s with spare Virgin Mk3 stock. These trains operated between May 2004 and September 2005. The photograph shows DVT 82120 leading one of the sets onto the branch at Drem Junction on 15 July 2005, with 90029 bringing up the rear.
Elderslie: Seen from Elderslie golf course, Royal Scot No 46166 'London Rifle Brigade' is creeping along the line from Paisley Canal on 13 February 1964, with the roof of the former Elderslie tram depot in the background. This view is no longer possible, due to the closure of the line and also to the forest of trees which has grown up on the embankment in the meantime.
Chester: Merseyrail 507009 already has the green signal for departure from Chester with the 16.15 circular back to Chester via Liverpool Central. When travelling on these EMUs it must be remembered that there are no toilets. The stations do have facilities but the staff need to unlock them. Chester is the exception, but don't hang about as the turnround time can be as low as 4 minutes if you want to catch the same train back.
Falkland Road: View of Falkland Road in 1964, taken from the rear of a southbound diesel unit. The station had closed six years earlier. See image [[78354]] for a 2021 view of the site.
Morar: The neat and tidy waiting shelter at Morar, seen from 'The Jacobite' on its way to Mallaig, on 8th September 2022.
Glasgow Queen Street High Level: The empty stock of the Fridays-only 9.15 am York-Glasgow is taken out of Queen Street, with banking assistance from the train engine, Gresley V2 2-6-2 60813.
Euxton Junction: GBRf 66747 is becoming quite a regular on the Hams Hall to Mossend container service. On 28 September 2022 it is seen heading north towards Euxton Jct with just five containers.
Elderslie: 20 February 1964 and Rebuilt Patriot No 45527 'Southport' slowly moves through Elderslie prior to backing into the Goods Yard for a spot of shunting.
Church and Oswaldtwistle: 150120, on a Colne to Preston stopper, accelerates away from Church and Oswaldtwistle and crosses the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near the site of Aspen Colliery (closed c1930). The colliery was canal served and there is a disused basin to the left of the towpath at this point. This view looks east on 5th September 2022.
Broomloan Depot [Subway]: The interior of a 1st generation subway car at Broomloan depot in 1975.
Fort William: 66746 bringing the empty stock of a chartered excursion into Fort William, at lunchtime on Thursday, 8th September 2022.
Milton Keynes Central: It was a truth universally acknowledged, that Bed-Pan 319s did not run North of Bedford. Except now they go to Northampton, Blackpool North and other destinations too, but I can't get excited about the wanderings of EMUs.
