Ongar: Ex-GWR Class 5101 2-6-2T 'Large Prairie' 4141, in former GER territory at Ongar, at the head of an Epping Ongar Railway train to North Weald on 1st June 2013. This station opened in 1865 with the extension of the line from Loughton with Central Line electrification reaching Epping in 1949. Steam trains continued to shuttle between Epping and Ongar until 1957 when electrification was extended to Ongar. Until 1994, when this section closed, tube trains from central London could be seen bouncing incongruously through woods and fields. This may have caused some wry smiles to residents of Crouch End (where I live) and Muswell Hill who were promised Northern Line tube trains on the Alexandra Palace branch but that scheme, on which more than £1 million was spent before 1939, was not proceeded with after 1945 and the line closed instead in 1954.
Gourock: The final steam hauled service on the Gourock line, the 5.03pm to Glasgow Central on Friday 28th April 1967, awaits departure behind Fairburn 2-6-4T 42274.
Kilkerran: Kilkerran station building and goods shed in 1988. The station closed on 6 September 1965. See image [[30758]] from 2010.
Larbert Viaduct: A ScotRail service from Edinburgh Waverley approaching the Larbert stop on 15 May 2015. The Dunblane bound train is about to cross Larbert Viaduct over the River Carron, less than half a mile from Larbert station.
Kingswear: 159004, with 159020, just arrived at the Torbay & Dartmouth Railway terminus at Kingswear For Dartmouth with UK Railtours' through excursion from Waterloo, reversing at Exeter St. Davids, on Saturday, 28th June 2014.
Sandy: Damage caused by fire on the railway in Sandy during the heatwave of July 2022.
Heywood: Bullied West Country 4-6-2 34092 'City of Wells' takes water at Heywood prior to working an ELR service to Rawtenstall on 25th June 2022. After my first ever trip on a double headed steam train earlier that day this was my first trip behind a loco that I own a model of.
Paddington: Outside cylinder 15XX 0-6-0PT No.1500 is performing its usual task of removing empty stock from Paddington station. The date is 16 June 1962 and we are in the 'Chocolate and Cream' era in the Western Region.
Buckshaw Parkway: TPE 802s now make a couple of trips a day from Edinburgh to Manchester Airport on the WCML. This breaks up the post electrification monotony of 331s and 397s between Euxton Junction and Bolton. Seen from the station footbridge, 802210 approaches Buckshaw Parkway heading north on 13th July 2022. The signal and the crossover behind the train allow services to reverse here when the line beyond Euxton Junction is closed for any reason, but in normal operations all trains run through to Preston and beyond.
Buckshaw Parkway: 47815 leads the Northern Belle on a 2022 7-day tour, this being the first part of day 3 from Manchester Victoria to Oxenholme (part 2 saw the train head to Edinburgh). The train is actually passing the site of wartime Chorley ROF Halt and a short distance to the east can be seen Buckshaw Parkway, which opened in October 2011 serving a new village built on the ROF site.
Crookston: Looking west at Crookston in 1990. The station had closed in 1983 and was soon burned down. Since rebuilt as a private house with passenger services restored later in 1990 but using the other platform.
North Acton: LUL 1992 stock train, on a Central Line service to Epping, departing from North Acton on 9th February 2019. The 1904 GWR cut-off line to Birmingham and the site of the GWR's North Acton station, closed in 1947, are on the left but obscured by the bushes.
Eastwood: Eastwood closed to passengers in 1951. It was on a cramped valley side location and the platforms were staggered either side of a level crossing. 195133, working York to Blackpool North, passes the site of the Manchester platform on 20th July 2022. The road crossing was removed many years ago and replaced by a simple one for pedestrians only. This view looking towards Hebden Bridge also shows one of the two station approach ramps.
