Barton and Broughton: LSL Driving Van Trailer 82139, paused in Barton Down Loop during a test run from Crewe to Carlisle with the LSL 1st Class MkIIIs and 87002. One of the issues being tested during this run on 14th January (and the previous day) was the DVT operation when being propelled on the return legs. I had not previously noticed the subtle livery on the DVT to match the coaching stock.
Tebay: A rain-soaked December morning during the final weeks of steam over Shap, with a freight heading off uphill from Tebay. The banker was Standard 4 75030 and the train engine Black 5 44878.
Hunterston Low Level Sidings: For the second week in succession there have been DRS driver training journeys from Motherwell to Hunterston Low Level. On a rather dreich Friday morning, 22nd January 2022, 66431 approaches the current limit of operations where the nuclear flask loading gantry is situated.
Thornton Junction: Levenmouth progress View from a passing train, on 19 January 2022, of the western end of the Methil branch, last used by coal trains from Earlseat. The former Up line trackbed has been scraped and will be used for storing new ballast, the first delivery having been made early that morning.
Heaton Chapel: This distinctive structure at Heaton Chapel is the entrance and covered stairway that leads down to Platform 1 for southbound trains. Further along the road to the right of the entrance a ramp has also been constructed but it is quite steep.
Whitegate: The station building and house at Whitegate on the former CLC branch line to Winsford & Over, seen from the approach road with the trackbed on the other side of the building. Although the station closed to passengers in 1931 it remained open for goods traffic until 1963. Fortunately the building survived and is now a visitor centre and cafe.
Prestonpans: Less than 10 minutes into its journey after leaving Waverley on the afternoon of 7 September 2016 a CrossCountry Voyager bound for Plymouth is about to run east through Prestonpans station.
Freshford: On 15th and 16th January 2022, the GWML was closed between Didcot Parkway and Swindon and some rather large trains were diverted via Westbury. This improbably clean Hitachi unit is a London to Swansea service. There were six photographers on and around Freshford station.
Geilston Crossing: 153370 leads 156474 as they pass Geilston level crossing on 4 January 2022, whilst working the 1034 hrs Glasgow Queen St to Oban service.
