Carnarvon Tunnel: The south portal of the former standard gauge tunnel on the Afon Wen to Bangor line, just north of the Welsh Highland Railway's terminus at Caernarfon and now converted into a road, on 22nd May 2016. The standard gauge station, closed in 1970, was north of the tunnel and has been completely demolished.
Penrith: Britannia 70051 'Firth of Forth' pulls away from the stop at Penrith, with the 2.00pm FSO Glasgow to Liverpool, on 19th August 1967.
Embleton: Station House at Embleton, between Bassenthwaite Lake and Cockermouth, has long outlived the little single platform station which closed in 1958, eight years before the line from Keswick. There was no passing loop here but there was a staffed level crossing and tokens were exchanged for the single line sections on either side of Embleton. The A66 trunk road now uses much of the trackbed between Keswick and Cockermouth and the station itself disappeared completely under the new road.
Buckshaw Parkway: A TPE Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service passes the construction site for Buckshaw Parkway in June 2011. Either side of the railway had been the Chorley ROF site (rail connected to the left beyond where the station is being built) but that had been progressively closed and was redeveloped for housing and warehousing. The west Pennine hills form the backdrop.
Bowes: The station access steps at Bowes (this is the lower flight, looking West) are still present, but the farmer - possibly troubled by trespass and theft - doesn't really want you to use them. A local who directed me to this site told me that the remains of the station may be demolished and rebuilt on the Kirkby Stephen East line. (See image [[28447]])
Paddington: Paddington station concourse at 06.00 on Saturday, 11th December 2021, while waiting for the Railway Touring Company's excursion to Shrewsbury behind Stanier Black 5 no. 44871 that departed at 07.06.
Greenock Ladyburn Shed: Greenock Princes Pier stalwart, Caley 4-4-0 No 54506, has ended its days at Ladyburn shed, where it was photographed on 23 February 1963, still sporting its 'Cycling Lion' motif.
Clyde Viaduct [Glasgow Central]: Seen from a room with a view, 390006 leaves Glasgow Central with the 11.17 to Euston on 27 December 2021.
Blackburn: 150137 and 150136 depart eastwards from Blackburn at the start of their circuitous route to Kirkby via Todmorden, Manchester Victoria and Wigan Wallgate on 14 December 2021.
