Scruton: Looking east from the level crossing by Scruton station in June 2021, along the presently non operational to passengers section of the Wensleydale Railway line running to Northallerton East Station and Castle Hill exchange sidings. Much of the line is not usable at present for passenger workings due to deterioration of track components over the last 18 months. A mile of flat bottom rail, sleepers and other items have been obtained from the closed Eggborough Power Station for a relaying needed approaching Redmire.

Woodacre Crossing: Orion Logistics Parcels EMU 326001, albeit still running with its former passenger number 319373, was out on test/training on 19th November 2021, seen here at Woodacre returning from Carlisle to Crewe, and running over an hour early.

Millport Pier: A couple of local hire boats are taking a close look at the unusual operation in progress at Millport's Old Pier. The 'Maid of Cumbrae' is moored at the pier and a sister vessel (the Maid of Argyll, I think, but the photo definition isn't good enough to be certain) has tied up alongside. Boarding passengers are crossing the gangway slung between the two. Definitely not an everyday occurrence and one probably best carried out in calm weather, which of course was happily the case that day.

Didcot Parkway: DBC (EWS liveried) 66133 bringing in a rather long train full of railway spoil, from where to where I wonder, but this was one of many very long trains to pass through Didcot on 9th November 2021.

Farington Curve Junction: A rather grainy photo of a Cravens 105 power-twin DMU, climbing away from Farington Curve Junction, with a Sunday service to Colne on 12th January 1981. The Cravens rattled a bit (well a lot) but they had character and I still miss the superb views from the end saloons through the two big cab windows.

Castle Eden: Highways England please note: it is possible to reinforce a bridge over a disused railway (just by Castle Eden station, out of sight beyond the bridge on the left) so that road traffic can pass overhead (on the B1281 Stockton Road) and ramblers and cyclists can pass underneath. Frankly, it looks like theres room for trains here as well. Perchance to dream.

Brondesbury: 378220, with a London Overground service to Stratford, departing from Brondesbury on 16th February 2016. This station was shoddily rebuilt at platform level in the 1960s, when its original wooden Victorian buildings were demolished and replaced by the usual ghastly bus stop style waiting shelters that are still there today, when the Broad Street to Richmond line, as it then was, was saved from the Beeching cuts. Its mind-blowing that Beeching ever had the audacity to propose closure of a line through the heavily built-up London suburbs in the first place.
