Bay Horse: Class 56s are rare birds around Lancaster these days so it was worth venturing out to Forton cutting on a damp November afternoon for 56113, working spent ballast from Carlisle New Yard to Pinnox Branch Esso Sidings, which I later found out is near Stoke on Trent. A northbound train a few minutes later made the effort doubly worthwhile [[78977]]. I initially thought this Colas train was a 'one off' but it has been running each weekday in November.

Sefton Park: Local people and railway workers in Liverpool have unveiled a World War II memorial made from forgotten anti-tank blocks known as 'dragon's teeth' which were uncovered during bridge maintenance work. Network Rail staff found the concrete fortifications at Stalbridge Avenue during recent railway repairs to improve journeys for passengers between Mossley Hill and Edge Hill. Hidden from view for decades behind overgrown trees and undergrowth, the wartime relics are now proudly on show beside a commemorative plaque to explain their historical significance. The devices were used all across Europe - by both Allied and enemy troops - to stop invading tanks and light infantry in their tracks. They were also nicknamed 'Toblerlone lines' after the similar looking Swiss chocolate.

Buchanan Street: A good number of photographers were out in the heavy rain with their cameras as B1 61407 left Glasgow Buchanan St with the 11.35 to Thornton on 5th November 1966. The station was to close the following day, however, and this was to be the final steam-hauled departure in the hours of daylight. The risk of a wet camera was no doubt having to be weighed against the importance of capturing a record of the occasion. I quite liked three-quarter rear shots of Buchanan St departures, so was happy enough to keep mine sheltered under the station canopy.
