Altrincham: A Metrolink tram has just arrived from Manchester at Altrincham in May 2017. The tram operates from Cornbrook over the former MSJ&A Railway before going onto street running after Deansgate. The platforms on the right are still part of the national rail network serving trains to Chester.
Bay Horse: The flock of starlings had witnessed the passage of several trains from the wires but the rumble of a Caterpillar diesel engine stirred them into flight. There is still a daily path from Carlisle to Crewe for these TPE push pull sets for test/training purposes but once they were in regular use between Liverpool and Scarborough it was only occasionally used. In January 2021 however several runs took place and 68026 'Enterprise' is seen propelling the train at Bay Horse, travelling at around 30mph on a temporary speed restriction. Photograph incidental to a daily permitted exercise under Corona Virus legislation.
Markle Level Crossing: 158711 crosses the not so level level crossing at Markle on 29 April 2017 with a Dunbar to Waverley service.
Craigellachie [2nd]: The trackbed and platform that once served the Strathspey route through Craigellachie. Photograph taken in 2012, looking west below the bridge that carried the A95 over the station. The goods shed and yard stood opposite this platform, while those platforms serving the Morayshire line were located off picture to the right. The station closed to passengers in 1968 and the trackbed now forms part of the Strathspey Way long distance walking route.
Motherwell: A meeting of local trains in the mainline platforms of Motherwell station in 1989. The tower of the Dalzell North Church (now the GLO Centre) is in the background.
Caldercruix: A Helensburgh Central - Edinburgh Waverley service, formed by SPT liveried 334007, leaving Caldercruix on 27 April 2011. The new station had opened here two and a half months earlier, replacing the 1862 original which had occupied the same site (closed January 1956).
Springburn: A Class 320 in its original Strathclyde Red (orange, really) sits at Springburn with a Milngavie train in July 1997. Milngavie had been the unvarying destination since electrification in 1960, though the service pattern here has changed several times in more recent years. The through line is now electrified and better served.
Tweedbank: UK Railtours' excursion from Kings Cross to the Borders Railway arriving at Tweedbank station, that had opened three months earlier, at 14.03 (more than 8 hours after leaving London before dawn) on 30th December 2015. On the right is 158703 waiting to return north to Edinburgh.
Abbeyhill Junction: Taking the Abbeyhill loop with a Commonwealth Games shuttle from Waverley to Meadowbank Halt. Will direct trains to Fife through the Forth Tunnel take this route?
Lossiemouth: Lossiemouth station's Steamboat and Railway Hotel. This was located on the platform alongside and immediately south of the station building (on the right) and on the east side of Pitgaveny Street.
Crianlarich: Crianlarich goods yard in 2002, busy with timber traffic.
