Easingwold: A surprising number of railway relics were noted when visiting a farm in the Easingwold area. These included a box van with sliding door each side, with end interior panelling almost as new, what looks to be a demountable livestock container, and, when looking upwards in an open pole barn, the wooden side frames from a NE 10T wagon used as roof purlins.

Stonehouse [Lanarkshire]: Extract from the Scottish Region timetable winter 1960-61 showing the Strathaven and Coalburn branches. It shows a rather poor service by today's standards; 'E' is what's now SX and 'S' is SO. Stonehouse was to become Scotland's sixth designated New Town but was 'de-designated' after it had barely got going. Lucky escape?

New Holland Pier: Dying days at the near derelict New Holland Pier station, on 17th June 1981. It closed one week later with the end of the ferries across the Humber Estuary to Hull, concurrently with the opening of the Humber Bridge.

Stirling New Bridge Signal Box: View southeast along the A84 and the route of the F&CJR towards the site of the New Bridge Signal Box and its once busy level crossing on the Stirling to Bridge of Allan Road. Unhelpfully almost entirely concealed by the tree in the middle of the present roundabout is the ornamental 1910 Bridge Clock Tower also marooned just behind it on the roundabout.

Halfway Viaduct: Halfway Viaduct on 24th August 2019. Halfway to where you may ask? The village of Halfway is roughly halfway to Bandon from Cork so that may have been where it got its name. The Cork, Bandon & South Coast Railway (originally the Cork and Bandon Railway) was a standard Irish gauge system opened in stages from 1849, reaching Bandon by 1851, a branch to Kinsale (1863), Dunmanway (1866), Dunmanway to Skibbereen (1877), Bantry (1881), a branch to Clonakilty (1886) and Skibbereen to Baltimore (1893). Most of the extensions and branches were originally independent companies but were gradually taken over by the CB&SCR. In 1924 the CB&SCR became part of the Great Southern Railway which in turn became part of CIE in 1945. Closure, in the face of considerable public anger, came on 1st April 1961. There were plans a few years ago to turn much of the route into a Greenway cycle and walkway (there are a number of highly successful such routes on disused Irish lines) but so far these have come to nothing.
