Rawtenstall
One of the nice things about heritage railways is the creation of alternative realities. A mere eight years after I rode behind the prototype HST power car on the GCR(N) , see image 54338, here is a full, production HST pulling into Rawtenstall on the ELR in June 2025. The usual timetable problems at a heritage railway gala led to me getting a free seat on a steam train to return me to my car, as it was the only train left that day going to Rawtenstall; and sounded distinctly more fun than the bus alternative.
