A1 60103 'Tornado', being operated by West Coast Railways on Thursday 5th June 2025, leads the return leg of 'The Dalesman' running as 1Z42 16:26 Carlisle to York through Appleby. The travelling community attending the annual Horse Fair in the town centre were beginning to settle in for a night of revelling but passengers aboard the train might have remained unaware of the nearby event—if it were not for the Police vans and RSPCA vehicles parked in the station car park. Class 47 no. 47815 was on the rear.
