Selkirk Junction

Less than a mile south of Galashiels station a branch left the Waverley Route, crossed the Gala Water and continued south west for a further six miles to reach the town of Selkirk. The branch saw its last scheduled passenger service in 1951 but survived for freight traffic well into the 1960s. The photograph shows the remains of the bridge which carried the branch across the Gala Water, taken from the south side of the river on a February morning in 2015. The Borders Railway runs past just beyond d the fence, with the houses of Langlee forming the skyline.
