London Victoria

London Victoria station at 06.51 on Saturday, 12th August 2023, as I arrived to await the departure of a UK Railtours' charter train on preserved 1957 Hastings 'Thumper' unit no. 1001. Victoria station is really two stations in one; the former Brighton side was opened on 1st October 1860 with the former Chatham side, seen here, opened alongside on 25th August 1862. Both were treated as one after the formation of the Southern Railway at the 1923 Grouping and in the following year the platforms were renumbered in a single sequence and openings made in the previously separating walls to make it easier for passengers to move between the two.
