Stubbins

This long public subway once afforded access to the north end of Stubbins station. Essentially two bridges, the nearest one carried the Stubbins Junction to Accrington line until 1966. Beyond that is the entrance to the Down platform and then the still operational bridge carrying the present day ELR with the old Up Platform entrance beyond. Stubbins closed with the line in June 1972 and has not reopened. Although for a time during the preservation era the old platforms could be accessed (See image 21774) they have now been fenced off.
