Swing Bridge [River Tyne]
The Swing Bridge (1876) on the Tyne connects Newcastle and Gateshead at quayside level. Once very busy allowing the numerous coal ships to pass, it now only opens for an occasional yacht or for its monthly test operation. This May 2023 view is from the adjacent High Level Bridge, with the Tyne Bridge forming a backdrop.
