Dagenham East

LU S7 stock, District Line to Upminster, departing from Dagenham East on 4th April 2023. This was opened as Dagenham by the LT&SR in 1885. The LMSR built the extra tracks alongside the Southend line as far as Upminster in 1932 and enlarged this station to four platforms. It passed to the London Midland Region at nationalisation in 1948 but in the following year control passed to the geographically correct Eastern Region who renamed it as Dagenham East. Southend line trains ceased to call in 1962 when the ex-Tilbury system was belatedly electrified, BR trains (now C2C) running fast between Barking and Upminster. The 1885 platforms survive derelict, out of view on the right, but even after 1962 the District side remained in BR ownership until 1969 when London Transport took over and LU roundels replaced BR signs.
